Western New England (WNE) University started in 1919 as a campus of North-eastern University, but subsequently its commencement into full university status in 1951, it has continually advanced into an internationally-renowned private institution that was graded among the top 50 of the ‘Best Value Colleges' in the USA by the Economist in 2015. Small class sizes and specialist faculty mean that students get the individualized attention they need to accomplish in a university environment, as well as the confidence to engage themselves in the WNE community – which holds more than 70 clubs and associations for students to get involved in.
Almost 98% of those learning at the institution obtain some form of financial support, for international students this is usually through WNE's Merit Scholarship program. WNE does everything it can to help students in achieving their career goals, and provides over 1,000 internship sites through its various industry links around the world.
The 215-acre (0.9 km2) campus of the Western New England University in Springfield consists of 24 major buildings and numerous athletic and recreation areas. The campus is located in a suburban neighborhood about four miles from downtown Springfield, along the Wilbraham border. Most of the campus remains undeveloped as a forest and open space.There are ten residences/complexes and seven buildings used for academic purposes. Among the old campus buildings, the neoclassical red brick architectural style predominates, with a number of modern styles integrated in the newer buildings.
As the university has grown, specialized facilities have been added within each college and school to provide additional instruction and research capacity.
