Chartered Student Organizations are groups that are legitimately identified by the University of New Mexico. Intramural sport activities presented by Recreational Services include flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, golf, tennis, and many others. Co-recreational subscriptions include indoor soccer and basketball. The Sports Club Program is meant to serve student interest in different sports and recreational activities. These interests can be competitive, recreational, or instructional. These clubs may represent the university in intercollegiate rivalry or conduct intra club activities such as tournament play, practice, instruction, and social interaction.

The University of New Mexico now inhabits nearly 800 acres near old Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area of more than 500,000 people. From the beautiful mesas to the west, past the historic Rio Grande banks to the Sandia Mountains to the east, Albuquerque is a blend of ethos and cuisine, styles and stories, people, pursuits, panoramas. Tendering a unique campus environment with a Pueblo Revival architectural theme, the campus structures echo nearby Pueblo Indian villages. The nationally recognized campus arboretum and the famous duck pond offer an outstanding botanical experience during one of New Mexico’s great public open spaces.

There are many opportunities for new students — over 72 million dollars in scholarships awarded in the 2019-2020 year at the University of New Mexico, with thousands of new students receiving an award. Scholarships are merit-based and awards are competitive.
