The university is home to more than 2,000 nationally and globally recognized research faculties, with a worldwide reputation for excellent teaching, research and innovative work in more than 150 academic disciplines. While the classroom is the site for most instructional events, laboratories, seminars, and field research also are essential characteristics of the undergraduate and graduate experience. Students will be engaged in study and innovative work as early as their freshmen year.

CU Boulder is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, at an altitude of 5,400 feet. The geographical position of Flatirons is visible from almost everywhere on campus. The weather is temperate, with usually pleasant days and cold nights. The main campus occupies 600 acres and includes about 200 buildings made of rough-cut Colorado sandstone with red tile roofs. The architectural style of rural Italian (or Tuscan vernacular) emerged from a master plan designed in 1919 by Charles Klauder, architect of Philadelphia.

The Norlin Quadrangle, plus the original Old Main building, is listed in the State and National Register of Historic Places. The campus has been noted as one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the country. The CU Boulder Scholarship Application allows you to both apply for multiple CU Boulder scholarships with a general application and gain access to additional scholarship opportunities. The application opens November 1 with most scholarship applications due between February 15 - March 15.
