A series of opportunities are available through Leadership Curricula, Student Government Association, Sports and Recreation programs, and Fraternity and Sorority organizations. The university's 505-acre property, which includes 17 high-tech research centers and labs accountable for USD 99 million in annual research expenses, serves as the second-largest research park in the country. It also preserves strong partnerships with federal agencies and commercial organizations that comprise the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Centre, the Missile Defence Agency, the DIA Missile, and Space Intelligence Center, and the U.S. Army Materiel Command. UAH honours incoming freshmen who have shown superior academic performance in high school for the first time. Priority scholarship preference will be granted to all first-time scholars who are offered entry to the UAH. Student eligibility is based on a number of factors, including career interests and accomplishments, exceptional ability and proven leadership. The UAH Scholarship Application is used to determine the eligibility of all competitive scholarships. International students entering freshmen are eligible for all freshman academic scholarships as well as for a number of competitive scholarships and International students who are now undergraduate students are eligible for a number of lucrative scholarships.
