South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship is a state-run program administered by the South Dakota Board of Regents, which awards merit-based awards to academically qualified high school graduates attending an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota. The award amount is $6,500 over four years of undergraduate enrolment or up to a bachelor's degree. Recipients will receive $1,300 per year for the first three years of attendance. He/she will receive $2,600 during the fourth year of the recipient. One half of the scholarship will be distributed at the beginning of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester. Students must continue to enroll with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of instruction per year in order to continue receiving the awards. The total amount of dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,500.
