Founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1964 as a small college with some innovative ideas, Nova Southeastern University was originally called Nova University of Advanced Technology and was a graduate in the Physical and Social Sciences. In 1994, the University of Nova combined with the Southeastern University of Health Sciences to form the University of Nova Southeastern. Listed as a research university with a high degree of research NSU is one of only 50 national universities to be given the Carnegie Community Participation Designation by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is also the largest private, non-profit university in the United States to meet with the United States.
