Johns Hopkins University was established in 1876, inaugurated by its first president, Daniel Coit Gilman. It is the nation's first research university, a place where students can address key issues of interest, pursue creative achievements, and advance basic and applied research. Hopkins offers need-based scholarships to undergraduate international students. Approximately 10% of the incoming international freshmen received need-based scholarships. The average scholarship is $25,000, but individual amounts can be more or less, depending on the financial need of the student.Furthermore, the standard class has a student-to-faculty ratio of 6:1.
