Florida Institute of Technology

The Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech or FIT) is a private research university based in Melbourne, Florida. The university consists of four academic institutions: Engineering & Technology, Aeronautics, Psychology & Liberal Arts, and Business. Approximately half of the FIT students are enrolled in the College of Engineering.

The 130-acre University-Main Residential Campus is located near Orlando Melbourne International Airport and Florida Tech Research Park. Florida Tech was established as the Brevard Engineering College in 1958. It all started out as a concept in the mind of Jerome P. Keuper, a visionary physicist at Cape Canaveral (now NASA - Kennedy Space Center). As the university would have it, Keuper shared his wish to establish a science and technology university for a friend over drinks in a local bar. Overhearing the discussion, a fellow customer moved 37 cents of change across the bar and said This is your first donation, Jerry. Now go and build the college." So, Keuper did that.
