Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is home to a wide range of institutes and centers where faculty and students conduct research to establish real-world solutions to society's challenges. The newest addition is the Sustainability Institute, which will concentrate on economic development and job creation by finding solutions through a multi-partnership initiative involving external and internal strategic alliances. In addition to being one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country, FAMU students have the opportunity to actively participate in a wide variety of educational or recreational activities. There are more than 100 recognized student clubs and groups at FAMU, and the Office of Student Activities offers leadership training, support, and other incentives to ensure that student life is as diverse as possible. FAMU students have access to excitement and fun every day at the Student Union, which houses a bowling alley, a ballroom, a hair salon, and a TV room, to name a few.
This building is also home to the FAMU student government, making it the center of well-rounded campus life. In addition to the main campus of Tallahassee, FAMU has many satellite campuses all over Florida. Both include the College of Law in Orlando and the College of Pharmacy and Medicinal Sciences (COPPS), which has offices in Crestview, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami. Prominently situated on the highest hill in Florida's capital city of Tallahassee, Florida A&M University is the only historically black university in Florida's eleven-member state university system.
The Presidential Special Scholarship Program is a merit scholarship for high school graduates who are diverse and have special talent outside the classroom setting. The scholarship will cover school fees, but minus the postal and $35 orientation fees, and will cover room and board fees, but minus the fines.
