The state of East Tennessee formally became a college in 1925 when it changed its name to East Tennessee State Teachers College. The college became a university in 1963, assuming the name it has today. Education is the highest priority of the university and the institution is committed to raising the level of educational attainment in the state and the country.
The University offers a wide variety of educational and research programs and clinical facilities and is the only Academic Health Sciences Center in the Tennessee Board of Regents. The university is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Northeast Tennessee. The area is home to what is known as the Tri-Cities of Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol. The magnificent campus is over 350 acres long and features a licensed Arboretum.
It is proud to offer scholarship funding to all categories of applicants: first-time freshmen students, transfer students, veterans, foreign students, newly enrolled undergraduate students, graduate students. The Visual Creative Arts Grants are available to artistic talented students. Along with Visual Creative Arts Scholarship, the university has other types of scholarships such as the Presidential Scholarship ( which awards $5000 per year, Provost Scholarship ( awards $4000 per year), etc.
