Established as a state-assisted university in 1964, Cleveland State University had a legacy of excellence when it adopted the facilities, faculties, personnel, and programs of Fenn College, a private institution of 2,500 students. In 1969, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law became a member of Cleveland State University. According to the Brookings Institution, CSU is No. 18 in the U.S. among public universities that carry out a vital dual mission: to provide upward mobility and to perform successful research.

CSU is the only Ohio university on the top of the Brookings list. More than 1,000 courses support 200 major fields of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as advanced and continuing education programs. The University also offers a program of honors to academically gifted and highly motivated students. Engaged Learning provides CSU students with 3,000 co-ops, internships, and other experiential learning experiences with employers in nearly every sector, ensuring that they are completely equipped to excel in their chosen careers.

The state-of-the-art 110,000 square foot Community Center building features a main gym, a multipurpose gym, six studios, multiple weight training and aerobic workout areas highlighted by a rubberized and tumultuous functional fitness room, racquetball/squash courts, a 1/10 mile indoor running track, and a gaming area with Xbox One and Nintendo Wii. Cleveland State students have the opportunity to engage in various interests. There are currently more than 200 student organizations on campus recognized by the Center for Student Events & Participation that improve the social, cultural, and educational experience of CSU students. The Cleveland State Campus consists of 85 acres-the largest footprint in downtown Cleveland-with 40 buildings for teaching, research, housing, administration, and recreation. The nineteen-story Rhodes Tower houses the University Library, classrooms, and several faculty offices, and is a striking part of the Cleveland skyline.

A scholarship is a grant or payment made to support the education of a student that is awarded on the basis of academic or other accomplishments. Furthermore, each student is encouraged to fill out the FAFSA to take full account of all types of financial aid.
