Brandeis University was established in 1948 by the American Jewish community at a time when Jews and other ethnic and racial minorities, as well as women, faced discrimination in higher education. Visionary founders set up a non-sectarian research university that accepted talented faculty and students of all backgrounds and beliefs. From the outset, Brandeis was based on undergraduate education, while developing a groundbreaking research enterprise. Brandeis has more than 260 student-run clubs and organizations, including service organizations, cultural awareness groups, performing groups, spiritual and religious groups, sports and games clubs, student leadership and advocacy groups, student magazines, a television station (BTV), and a radio station (WBRS). The university promotes and supports all aspects of spiritual and religious life on campus. The university provides a rich variety of programming, groups, and academic research opportunities. There are more than 20 classes of students focusing on faith and spirituality.

The Faculty offers classes on a variety of religious traditions across a wide range of departments and programs. Chaplains and advisors from a range of backgrounds represent the Brandeis group. The campus is full of days and nights of festivals, concerts, film screenings, guest speakers, sporting events, club meetings, and other activities. It's a beautiful place.

Brandeis maintains a strong need-based scholarship and fellowship program with a strong commitment to financial assistance (Brandeis-Sponsored Merit Scholarships, Brandeis-Sponsored National Merit Scholarships, etc.) are the types of scholarships offered by the university. A student must submit a CSS/PROFILE to be considered for a scholarship.
