Established in 1918, Ball State is a state-assisted the residential university in Muncie, Indiana, a mid-sized Midwestern city and northeast of Indianapolis. About 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students enroll in different on-and off-campus academic programs each year. Ball State is a research university, a high-level research activity of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and approved by the Higher Learning Board. In addition, students can obtain a wide variety of master's degrees to prepare for careers in business, government, education, health care, and more. The University also offers research degrees leading to PhDs in Philosophy, Education (EdD), Arts (DA) in Music and Audiology (AuD). Getting active by community service and service-learning is a perfect way to get the most out of Ball State experience. Out of the 300 plus student organizations in the Student Life Office, Voluntary Student Services is one of the largest.

Established in 1965, SVS sends more than 2,000 Ball State students to the community to serve others. These students are from all academic disciplines and majors. Some students use SVS to fulfill the service-learning criteria for their courses, while others sign up with us just for fun. Ball State's 731-acre campus in the heart of Muncie, Indiana, features 112 academic, administrative, auxiliary, and residential buildings worth more than USD 1 billion. The university also has just over 400 additional acres of research land. Twelve residence hall complexes and two apartment communities are populated by about 7,200 students. With a population of about 70,000, Muncie is home to cultural and leisure facilities such as Minnetrista, Cardinal Greenways, and the Muncie Civic Theatre, as well as many campus opportunities. Many scholarships are based on talent, academics, service, or leadership. However, there are also need-based programs to assist students. Ball State offers a wide variety of scholarships (Presidential Scholarships, Ball State Scholars Award, etc) of its own and several of their academic departments grant funding to students in their programs.
