With eight schools and over 170 programs including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, American University students choose a personalized curriculum of theoretical study and experiential learning, taught by internationally-recognized faculty in courses that take them from the classroom to the nation’s capital, and all around the globe.

All admitted students, irrespective of nationality, are considered to be eligible for academic/merit scholarships. In general, admitted scholarship recipients have excellent academic qualifications and exceptional leadership skills. Most merit-based scholarships do not require an application for financial assistance. However, the university strongly encourages merit award candidates to complete the forms required for need-based assistance if they believe that, in addition to their merit, they may need financial assistance. Merit award recipients who have applied for need-based financial assistance shall be considered for any need-based aid for which they qualify beyond the amount of the merit award.
