At the Undergraduate level, Yale College students may choose to major in Computing and the Arts.

The major requires 14 Yale College courses, including two project courses that satisfy the Yale senior requirement.

For students coming from a computing perspective, issues in music, art, art history, architecture, and theater studies present interesting, substantive problems to solve.

For students coming from an artistic perspective, studying methods in computing offers them a systematic approach for achieving their vision.

Currently many computational tools in the arts are treated like black boxes.

The users prod the interfaces and make up their own theories about cause and effect.

A CS foundation will allow them to understand existing tools better and therefore to use them more rationally.Students considering the Architecture Track should meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) for Architecture, Bimal Medis, during their first year at Yale, as well as the DUS for Computing and the Arts.

The DUS for Architecture can advise students on sequences of courses to take within Architecture, substitutions that may be made, and potential project advisors.

Students interested in this track are advised to take either CPSC 112 (a or b) or CPSC 201 and also one of the Architecture prerequisites in their first year at Yale.
