Vanier College is a publicly funded CEGEP English Language School based in Montreal. Called in honor of General Georges P. Vanier, a Canadian soldier, diplomat, and former Governor-General of Canada, Vanier College opened its doors on September 8, 1970, welcoming close to 1,400 students in its first cohort.
The Vanier College Crest is an evolution of the Vanier Family Arms Coat. The College continues to provide full-time pre-university and technical career programs leading to the Certificate in College Studies (DCS), while the Continuing Education Department provides credit DCS and College Studies (ACS) programs as well as non-credit courses and programs.
The academic life of the College is enhanced by a multitude of student programs, resource centers, and social and cultural events. The Vanier College was distinguished by its diverse student body, with students from all ethnic backgrounds and from every continent included in the College community.

Located in what used to be a church, the three-story library offers a supportive atmosphere for all Vanier community members to do research, study, and obtain assistance with their information needs. It works in conjunction with two other departments (TASC & STEM) to form Learning Commons. The library holds a print collection of over 70,000 books in a wide range of disciplines. The Athletics Department has fielded competitive teams in 10 collegiate sports. Vanier College Cheetahs has produced a variety of professional athletes and won both national and provincial championships. In particular, the Men's AAA Basketball Team just won their second National Championship, and the Men's AAA Football Team won their ninth Bol d'Or Provincial Championship. Vanier College is also a designated Sport-Etudes College, which invites professional athletes to its student body.
Located in an oasis of green in the borough of Saint-Laurent, in the City of Montreal, Vanier College occupies lands and buildings bought by the government from the Soeurs de Sainte-Croix, which had previously run a convent (Couvent Notre-Dame-des-Anges) and a private women's college (CollËge Basile-Moreau) on the site. Over the years, these buildings have undergone a significant redesign to meet the changing needs of post-secondary education.
