The history of the University of Windsor started when it was established in September 1857, when the first students arrived to study at its predecessor, Assumption College. Over the past 150 years, the University of Windsor has evolved as a comprehensive, student-focused university with approximately 15,000 students enrolled in a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including many professional schools such as Law, Finance, Engineering Education, Nursing, Human Kinetics, and Social Work.
Students can select from more than 120 majors and minors and more than 70 masters and doctoral degrees. Its outstanding faculty, men, and women who are leading academics in their fields and committed mentors in the classroom, is at the core of all its programs.

The Windsor Art Gallery gathers, preserves, interprets, and displays Canadian art. Its riverside building in downtown Windsor is a location where local, regional, and national artists can see important works of art. The gallery's collection of more than 3,000 works of art, including paintings, drawings, prints, portraits, sculptures, illustrations, and images, spans the period from about 1750 to the present day.
The University has an active performance program with concerts and recitals by students and faculty members both on and off-campus. The School of Creative Arts (SoCA) is organizing a wind ensemble, a jazz ensemble, and a percussion ensemble, as well as a variety of vocal groups, including the Women's Chamber Choir, a national winner in its 2008 CBC Radio Choir category.
Windsor is one of Canada's most ethnically diverse cities, with a range of restaurants, friendly shops, and abundant cultural offerings only a short walk, bike, or bus ride away from campus. Windsor University is a safe urban campus covering 51 hectares (125 acres) in Windsor, Ontario. The main campus is only a few blocks away from the downtown, making it perfect for walking or biking. It enjoys a prime spot, just minutes from both downtown Windsor and downtown Detroit, two cities with distinct identities and no lack of items to keep students occupied all year long.
The University of Windsor provides to international students scholarships and awards to recognize academic achievement.
Awards provided to entering undergraduates include the International Student Entrance Awards/Scholarships, the Outstanding Scholars Award, and the University of Windsor Women in Engineering Award.
These awards are made at the time of admission.
No additional application is required.
Students may also earn in-course awards while continuing their studies at the University of Windsor.
Students entering research-based graduate programs that meet or exceed the equivalent of a Canadian 80% will be considered for a graduate study scholarship.
International students may also compete for external scholarships.
