Formed in 1970, The Arboretum is home to more than 2000 different taxa of woody plants, grouped into collections that include a synoptic World of Trees collection, as well as a Native Trees of Ontario collection, and noteworthy collections of Oaks and Beeches, Maples, and Conifers. It incorporates 400 acres of plant collections, gardens, walking trails, natural woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Adjacent to the university's main campus, The Arboretum is free to the public and open dawn until dusk.

The University of Guelph has an extremely generous scholarship program that recognizes academic achievements and supports students in their continuation of study. In 2018, more than $32 million in scholarships was awarded to U of G students.
Scholarships are given on the basis of meritorious achievement and can include things like extra-curricular activities, demonstrated leadership ability and volunteerism.
Recipients are acknowledged for their past achievements, and the reward is given to encourage further study and accomplishment.
This means that students must be registered to receive their scholarship. Many scholarships at the University of Guelph do not require students to apply, but some require an application.
