The UK is planning to introduce yet another visa in order to entice high-potential individuals to the country.
The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa, which is set to launch on May 30, is aimed at attracting highly skilled foreign university graduates who will be able to work and depending on their degree level can stay in the UK for two or three years.
Applicants will not need a job offer or sponsorship, and holders of this visa will be able to work as self-employed, and as volunteers in the UK.
In a statement, Kevin Foster, Minister for Safe and Legal Migration said, “Internationally mobile individuals who demonstrate high potential will find it as simple as possible to come to the UK via the new High Potential Individual route. It will allow people who have already proved their academic ability to come to the UK without having received a job offer.”
The first and the foremost step for qualifying for the visa is a degree from a renowned university. The British government once a year releases the list of universities on the Gov.uk.
The list includes the schools that feature on the top 50 in at least two of three renowned rankings:
If your degree was not taught in English, you must pass an authorized English language test at the B1 level.
You’ll need a certificate from the awarding body or a university transcript if your degree was taught in English. If the degree was earned outside of the UK, Ecctis will need to validate that if it fits the requirements for a UK bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree.
You must have the equivalent of £1,270 in your bank account for a continuous 28-day period no later than 31 days before applying for a HPI visa.
If you’ve been in the UK for more than a year, you may not be required to complete this criteria.
The cost of Visa will be £715.
Bachelor’s and master’s degree holders will be granted a two-year visa. Graduates with a PhD or another doctoral degree will be granted three-year visas.
This visa can only be obtained once, and those who have previously had a Graduate visa will not be eligible.
You cannot apply for PR directly.
Instead, you can apply for visas under the skilled worker, start-up and innovator, exceptional talent, or scale-up categories before your visa expires.
Your dependents, such as a partner or children under the age of 18, will be allowed to accompany you. A spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner is referred to as a “partner.” According to sources, unmarried partners must demonstrate that they have lived together for at least two years and that their connection is real.
