Student Visa for Spain

For Indian students who wish to travel to Europe, Spain might be an excellent option. Spain has plenty to offer, whether it is for language courses, business schools like ESADE in Barcelona, or even culinary schools. Find out more about obtaining a Spanish student visa and what to anticipate throughout the application process.

Following your joyous admission into the Spanish university of your choosing, you must apply for a visa. Obtaining the university’s acceptance letter is the first and most crucial step you need to take to begin the visa application process and get in touch with the closest Spanish consulate or embassy. Applicants from New York and Miami, as opposed to those from other locations, may apply through BLS centres.

Depending on how long you want to study in Spain, there are two different kinds of student visas available.

  • 180-Day D-Type Visa (Schengen): study mode for 3-6 months

The Spanish Embassy and Consulate will employ the BLS visa processing service if you are seeking a short-term visa to Spain. BLS will assist in gathering your data and serve as your point of contact for paying your visa expenses.

  • Student Type-D Visa (National Visa): more than 6 months

For a long-term visa, you must apply and pay the consular fees directly to the Spanish Embassy in India or the Consulate General in Mumbai.

Note: It is crucial to remember that the application needs to be submitted at least one to three months before your trip to Spain. No applications will be accepted if they are submitted less than 90 days in advance.

Eligibility

  • A current school leaving certificate is a must.
  • If the selected programme is taught in Spanish, students must pass the DELE Test (Diploma de Espanol Como Lengua Extranera). The exam will serve as a gauge of your proficiency in Spanish.
  • Students who choose to enrol in an English-taught programme in Spain must pass an English language proficiency exam, such as the TOEFL, IELTS, or another one.
  • Since the minimum grade point (Nota de Corte) necessary for the program varies from university to university, students must check with the institution they are applying to.
  • Students would also need to meet the requirements for any course-specific tests that the university may require in addition to these required exams. To submit your application to a university, you will need to provide some impressive LORs (Letter of Recommendation) and SOPs (Statement of Purpose).

Note: Students need to remember that the prerequisites listed above are basic. It is recommended that students visit the university’s official website to verify the relevant qualifying requirements.

FAQ's

Following studies, how can I obtain Spanish PR?

After finishing your studies, you will need to apply for permanent residence (PR) in Spain. You will need to provide specific paperwork, such as your current passport and residency permission, proof of your five years of stay in Spain (a rental agreement), a copy of your health insurance policy, and a certificate of medical clearance.

Can a student visa allow me to work in Spain?

Should you possess a 180-day Spanish Study Visa, you will not be allowed to work in Spain. In the interim, you can apply for a residence permit, which will allow you to work in Spain, if you have a long-stay visa. Depending on the terms of your Spanish residency visa, you can work temporarily or part-time. The task of requesting or obtaining a work permit on your behalf falls to your employer. Remember that you cannot rely only on a job in Spain to support yourself while you are a student.

What happens if my visa is denied?

It is unlikely that your visa will be denied if you have complied with all rules and filed all required paperwork. However, if it does occur, be careful to review all of your mistakes again. Within a month following the refusal, you have the option to file an appeal if you believe the application was denied unfairly. When you submit the request, you must send:

  • A copy of the letter of rejection.
  • a cover letter outlining your appeal’s justification.
  • a duplicate of your passport.
  • Your phone number and address as of right now.
  • an envelope with a stamp (SAE).

After I finish my studies, how may I change my student visa to a work visa?

Yes, you will need to locate an employer that will offer you a contract for at least a year, fill out some more paperwork, and pay a small fee to do this. As long as your employment contract is in effect, your work visa will be authorised.
