Steps Involved In Visa Process:

• First and foremost, you need to schedule an appointment for the visa interview at the local German embassy or consulate in your home country.
• On the scheduled interview day, you should offer your visa application documents to the consular officer.
• Additionally, you will need to answer the interview questions set by the consular officer who will closely examine you as a potential visa candidate.
• The consular officer is likely to ask questions emphasizing the term, “What if?”
• Be very cautious while answering to the consular, as he may reject your visa if he finds your intention is to settle down in Germany.
• Be very honest while answering and simultaneously put forth your supporting documents.

The visa application process would take 15-60 days.

Important Documents For Germany Student Visa

• Completed application form
• Valid passport
• Two photographs
• Letter of Acceptance from a German university
• Transcripts of academic record
• Certificate of Health from any Certified Medical Practitioner
• Certificate of Health Insurance
• Self-declaration of the genuineness of the documents submitted
• Proof of language proficiency – IELTS/TOEFL
• Proof of Financial Security

In addition to the stated documents, you also need to provide proof that you don’t have any criminal record. Further, one of the ways to provide your proof of financial security is to deposit a security payment of 8,700 Euros for one year into a blocked account to ensure that you will not be able to withdraw the money until you arrive at Germany.

All about Resident Permit:

It is essential to obtain a Resident’s Permit to stay in Germany for more than three months. This is valid for two years and could also be renewed before it expires. Once you are in Germany, you need to convert your German Student visa into Resident’s Permit within two weeks of arrival. For this, you will have to register with the Local Registration Office (Bürgeramt or Einwohnermeldeamt).

The documents you need to submit are similar to those needed for the visa:

• Valid passport
• Certificate of enrolment from your university
• Proof of Financial Security
• Certificate of Health
• Certificate of Health Insurance
• Current Visa
• Proof of Language Proficiency
• If applicable, your tenancy agreement
• If applicable, your biometric passport photos
• Residence Permit Fee – Initial payment: 110 Euros; Extension fee: 80 Euros

Although you will already have provided your proof of language proficiency as a part of your university application, you may be required to provide this information again in order to gain your Resident’s Permit. For courses taught in German, international students need to provide a TestDaf or DSH score, or, for English-taught courses, you’ll need to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score.

Please remember that it is advisable to not enter Germany on a tourist visa as it is beyond the bounds of possibility to convert this into Resident’s Permit once you are in Germany.
