Strong Academic Credentials Standardized Test Scores Other Aspects of Profile
An undergraduate degree (3 years) in a related discipline

Pre-Master’s – Students who do not meet the minimum eligibility can opt for a Pre-Master’s program which will prepare an aspiring student for postgraduate study in the UK. A few universities run their own pre-master’s programs while others work in partnership with specialist colleges.

GRE exam is not mandatory for most programs at most universities

IELTS test is required

As for the minimum scores, it varies from university to university, but on an average, most UK universities require a 6.5 on IELTS. The band requirement is higher for programs that require a higher degree of literacy like English Literature, Journalism, Mass Communication, Creative Writing and Law, which may require a band of 7 or 7.5. If these scores seem unachievable, students may also look for intensive English language courses run by some universities to enhance their level of English.

Strong Academic Profile, projects, internships, papers

Full-time postgraduate students who are six months into their course can work up to 20 hours per week. However, this number of hours can increase during vacations or in case of an agreed work placement or internship. However, students are not allowed to engage in entrepreneurship, self-employment, or enter into professional sports or entertainment.

Student Visa Terms and Provisions

The UK student visa is called a Tier 4 (General) Visa, which works on a Point Based System (PBS). In order to apply for a student visa in the UK, you must be ‘sponsored’ by a recognized university. The university must confirm that you have been offered admission and will be studying for your MS in UK within UK immigration requirements. Thereafter, the university will issue a ‘Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies’.

The student visa is typically valid for the entire course duration plus one month. The best time to apply for a visa to study in the UK is at least 3 months prior to the commencement of the program. Students should apply online and book an appointment for a visa interview at a Visa Application Centre. The final application process time can vary anywhere from 2 to 30 days and the cost is around 322 GBP.

Students are allowed to enter the UK one month before their program’s start date. The student visa issued is only a short-term entry permit which has to be replaced by a long-term biometric residence permit within 30 days of the student’s arrival in the UK.

Healthcare

International Students are provided free healthcare services through the National Health Service. Dental and optical care is not covered, and students may also have to pay for prescription medicine.
