It enables one in many ways by helping learn and hone skills related to management and leadership, focus on areas of expertise, get an edge over others if already employed, and help expand knowledge and opportunities for a global career in the future.

Getting admission to a prestigious university abroad is one of the first and most important milestones to achieve in this direction. Across the world for a very long time GMAT scores alone were considered standard ones to qualify for top MBA programs. However, with the changing business scenario, the eligibility criteria for MBA programs have undergone a change. The GRE-General Test score (Graduate Record Exam) officially conducted by US-based Education Testing Service ETS too is now accepted for MBA programs everywhere and by almost 1300 business schools across the US, apart from admissions in Science and Law programs.

With changing times and the advent of technology, the way corporates function saw a big change which led to a requirement of new and different kinds of skill sets to be developed in the workforce. With more than 500000 individuals taking the GRE test every year globally, business schools around the world, including GRE accepting MBA colleges in India, gained access to a varied pool of applicants with a wide-ranging education and professional background from different parts of the world. Opening MBA programs for applicants with diverse backgrounds like life science, engineering, social sciences, behavioural sciences gave top business schools the opportunity to give MBA students a rich and unmatched learning experience during their course of study.

According to data compiled by Poets & Quants, “over the past five years, the percentage of entrants submitting GRE scores has climbed at 42 of the top 50 full-time MBA programs in the United States.” Apart from Science, Law, other master’s and Ph.D. programs GRE score is now acceptable for both two and one Year MBA programs offered at top business schools.

GRE Advantage for Applicants

GRE Advantage for Applicants

The most obvious advantage of GRE for admission purpose is that the score is not limited to one stream. Along with business now, GRE score was already acceptable for science and law programs. If an individual wants to pursue dual degrees one doesn’t have to prepare and put effort into two separate entrance exams. This makes GRE a preferred qualifying test to take after graduation.

The GRE General Test is conducted at more centres worldwide compared to other popular entrance exams around the world making it easy for applicants to look for convenient centres and dates. The computer based test is offered around the year ensuring easy access and maximum reach to aspirants. Remote areas offer paper-based tests where computer based testing is a challenge.

Test takers get user friendly features during the test like skip questions as per an individual’s choice. Additionally, applicants to business schools have the choice to send their best GRE scores during the admission process, which helps them approach the admission committee with much more confidence.

Your subject wise strengths should be the deciding factor for choosing a particular qualifying test. On the other hand, those who are more comfortable with geometry, for instance, may find GRE easier as there are more geometry questions in the GRE exam compared to GMAT.

What is a good GRE score?

Is 300 a good GRE score?

A GRE score of 325 and above is generally considered good enough for anyone to get through reputed institutes depending on the program applied for. However, 300 is a good score for many master’s programs across varied streams.

Will I get my GRE score immediately after finishing the test?

Your official scores will be available in your ETS Account and sent to your score recipients approximately 10–15 days after your test date.

How long is the GRE test with breaks?

The total time for the GRE test is 3 hours 45 minutes. During the exam, the first break of ten minutes is given after the third section of the total six sections.

Can I send only my best GRE score to the university?

With the ScoreSelect ® Option you can take a GRE test once now, or again in the future, and only send the GRE test scores from whichever test date(s) you want schools to see. Best of all, you always have five years to decide. (Source ETS)
