hi,
there are different rankings popular for B-schools in the West. Rankings of US News, Business Week, Economist Intelligence uNit etc. are the popular ones.
While most of the agencies which come up with these rankings would have their own business interests, by and large, they follow some approved criteria for ranking. How better can a Mgt. program open up new career oppurtunities for the students, Whether the students and recruiters get the expected output from the B-School, has the mgt. programme won any accreditation from the international bodies, these are the main criteria for rankings. don't go for the ranking of just one agency. go through all and make an opinion yourself.
thnx

Yes I agree with NANI55, mostly the rating agencies give ranking according to their business interest and their financer/sponsors interest.
But I still believe the ranking in following ways.
1. For US schools I prefer USNews
2. For Asian schools I prefer BusinessWeek
3. For European schools I prefer Financial Times
4. For UK schools I prefer Times goods universities ranking
With the above ranking system in mind, I also consider following parameters
1. Specialization offered by the program according to my preference
2. Placement in last three years
3. Budget to fit my pocket
4. Atmosphere (culture)
5. Relationships like any relative lives near my school, or any Indian student association

Does rank of the school really matters? does it really affects placement in India? Most of the times isnt it about having a foreign degree and thats the only thing that matters?

Ranking would matter somewhat neha.
Lets say if you have a degree from Stanford or Harvard or MIT, your worth in the job market would automatically increase.

Ofcourse they are capable of it, but tell me how many times have you heard people leaving a chance to study at MIT or Harvard to go to some other school?
I know people personally who would give an arm for a Brand name ;)
By the way, which B schools are you referring to?

Hi Neha,
The ranking of a particular university does have its own importance. A B-school is ranked number 1 in terms of its studies, programs, placement records, infrastructure, faculty etc.
All these factors are very important on deciding which school to go in for pursuing the degree.
